Gary Carter: Hall of Fame Catcher (The Mets Years Part One: 1984-1986)

Gary Carter- Mets Career: On December 10th, 1984 the Mets landed the man they needed to put them over the top. Gary Carter was one of the last pieces to their Championship puzzle. The Mets got Gary Carter from the Montreal Expos in exchange for Hubie Brooks, Mike Fitzgerald, Herm Winningham & Floyd Youmans. The Kid as he was known, arrived with a lot of hype & fanfare going into the 1985 season. At the time he was the league's second highest paid player for the next two seasons. On the field, the future Hall of Famer had been one of the game's best catchers since the mid-seventies. His aggressive style of play & intense attitude on the field earned him the respect. Gary Carter's 1986 Post Season Performance

1986 NLCS:  In the first four games of the 1986 NLCS against the Houston Astros, Mets catcher Gary Carter struggled. In the Game #1 loss, he went 0-4 against Mike Scott.  In Game #2, Carter collected a 4th inning RBI double off Nolan Ryan putting the Mets up 1-0.  But from there he would go 0-15 batting .050 into the 12th inning of Game #5. Carter was visibly  frustrated as the at bats continued, especially as the Mets found themselves tied 2-2 in the series. In Game #5 at Shea Stadium, a classic in which the Mets Doc Gooden had pitched nine innings & Houston's Nolan Ryan had pitched ten innings to a 1-1 tie. ( centerfieldmaz was in attendance for this classic).  The Mets  Wally Backman collected an infield single he then reached second on a botched pick off. Remembering Octavio Dotel: 1999 NL Wild Card Mets Pitcher (1999)

Octavio Eduardo Dotel was born on November 25, 1973, at Santo Domingo. His father was Emilio & his mother Maria Magdalena. Octavio had two brothers & two sisters.  In 1993 just after he signed his contract his father was robbed & killed in Santo Domingo.  Dotel was signed as an amateur free agent by The New York Mets in 1993, playing at their Dominican affiliate for two years. He developed in the Mets minor leagues going 11-3 in at A ball in 1996, advancing up to AA & AAA going 12-8 posting a 2.84 ERA in 1998.  In 1999 he was 5-2 at Norfolk when he got called up at the end of June  Mets Career: On June 26th, Dotel made his MLB debut starting a game against the Braves in Atlanta.  He got shelled for six runs on five hits, including a Ryan Klesko three run HR. On July 1st, he made his second start giving up five more runs in Florida against the Marlins. But he Mets offense produced 12 runs giving Octavio his first victory.  ...
